Nondual Mischief – The Cosmic Game

Updated: Apr 7

"When you began knowing that you are, you did a lot of mischief,

but when the 'I am' is not there, there is no question of mischief"

NISARGADATTA

It seems nihilistic and cruel, when coming from the perspective of being separate from the all, and yet this appears to be a fundamental characteristic of the dance of life that we are all doing, here.

To apparently lose our knowing of true nature, to feel the pain of being and existing as a separate entity, to forget – and to engage in the exploration of being that forgetting and the apparent path of remembering.

Upon the moment of remembering (awakening) which ‘happens’ again, and again, and again, this is experienced as fundamentally hilarious. Within the clarity of ‘this is all me, playing with myself’ (which is the essence of self-realisation, in being), there’s a love and tenderness for the inherent mischief of this game of peek-a-boo.

But from the one, ‘doing separation’, this can feel torturous and incredibly painful.

And within this game, there is always a fundamental mechanism, as the appearance of the one,

‘sitting across’ from the one,

pointing it back to itself,

with a deep tenderness and compassion,

to support itself to find itself.

Through deep belonging and acceptance, we can come to rest in knowing the game is happening, is perfectly safe, and is a profound expression of its own freedom to play hide and seek with itself.

As well as to ease its own discomfort,

of its own game,

in itself,

as the other.

This ‘sitting across’ can look like two people.

A teacher and a student.

A therapist and a client.

A friendship.

Two lovers.

A parent and child.

It can look like being faced with an apparent situation of our deepest fears and/or greatest desires.

The truth is, there is no bridge of ‘sitting across’.
And through experiencing the moment directly, as often as we remember, we can become familiar with the game and the inherent friendliness of the one reality,

deeply in love with itself,

pointing itself,

constantly,

back into its own revealing.

"The consciousness in you and the consciousness in me, apparently two, really one, seek unity and that is love."
